Most LLM agent systems fail due to a fatal structural flaw: they delegate absolute authority to a stochastic process and then beg for coherence using post hoc heuristics. If you've built agent loops, you know the result: infinite deliberation, state amnesia, and narrative collapse. In social simulation, this isn't a UX problem. It's the destruction of causality.
SocialCompute rejects this entirely. The LLM is not the simulator. It is merely a proposal engine trapped within a strict deterministic physics of social constraints. The governing paradigm is non-negotiable:
“The LLM proposes, the physics disposes.”
Every candidate action hits a wall of hard environmental rules, social tension constraints, and state-vector consistency checks before it touches the world. The engine doesn't ask the model for coherence; it forces coherence through architecture.

A deterministic orchestrator sits at the center and acts as the absolute arbiter of agency. The model proposes intent, dialogue, suspicion updates, concealment strategies, reflective corrections — but it never directly mutates world state. Every proposal routes through a control layer that evaluates feasibility, timing, access conditions, social pressure, and continuity with active state vectors. If a proposal violates world invariants or breaks coherence, the orchestrator denies it or transforms it through agency sequestration. No exceptions.
This is not a wrapper around an LLM. It is a control architecture that subordinates generative output to simulation law. The orchestrator owns the canonical state of the world: epistemic separation across agents, temporal progression, consequence propagation. The effect is forced narrative coherence — events stay legible across long runs because deterministic rules authorize state transitions, not the model's momentary fluency.
“System 2 reflection” is an engineered phase here, not an emergent accident. The orchestrator invokes reflective passes under controlled conditions and interprets them through the same arbitration framework as outward actions. Reflection improves local reasoning, but it cannot bypass environmental truth, timeline constraints, or social-physics boundaries. Self-justifying hallucinated plans never become executable reality.

Agentic systems in the wild oscillate between two collapse modes. In one, agents over-deliberate — spinning recursive reasoning loops without ever committing to grounded action. In the other, they act but hemorrhage continuity, forgetting what they learned, what they observed, what other actors could plausibly know. Both failures are catastrophic in multi-agent simulation where epistemic boundaries and social pressure define the entire realism surface.
We solve this with forced epistemic propagation. Information doesn't “exist” in the simulation because an LLM hallucinated it in its output. It must be injected, observed, transmitted, or inferred through valid state transition nodes. If an agent lacks the access vector to a fact, the orchestrator prunes the hallucination in real time. Knowledge moves through the world along controlled channels. Agent memory lives as stateful vectors — not as fragile prompt residue that decays every context window. This eliminates an entire class of amnesia artifacts and kills the recursive loops that emerge when models reconstruct missing context from scratch.
The result: action selection stays constrained, memory stays durable, uncertainty stays explicit. Agents still surprise us — but they do it inside a governed space. Unpredictability lives at the behavioral surface. System integrity lives at the architectural core. That separation is the whole point.

This system was built at the boundary between symbolic control and latent model behavior — and that boundary fights back. The challenge was never “getting responses” from a model. It was taming the latent space through thousands of collision cycles: forcing agents against stress thresholds, auditing logic failures at every arbitration node, and calibrating cognitive pressure valves until model proposals stayed useful under stress, ambiguity, and adversarial social conditions.
The hardest engineering surface was pressure calibration. Too little pressure and agents drift into verbose, low-commitment behavior. Too much and they collapse into mechanical patterns that kill simulation richness. We coded interpersonal friction as a first-class mathematical metric, iterating until stochastic variability was trapped inside useful narrative bounds. Stress variables, action gates, and reflective triggers are all tunable control surfaces — not afterthoughts.
In parallel, we built inference telemetry that makes the model's black-box reasoning operationally visible without exposing proprietary control logic. The instrumentation captures proposal classes, arbitration outcomes, conflict patterns, latency distribution, and the exact conditions under which reflective passes improve or degrade coherence. This is not ornamental observability. It is the debugging substrate — the basis for calibration and scientific iteration in a system where failures manifest as subtle narrative incoherence long before they surface as runtime errors.
Social simulation does not advance through prompt craft. It requires rigorous control interfaces, inspectable state evolution, and measurable intervention points between stochastic generation and deterministic world update.

Social computing is an infrastructure layer for complex simulation: a substrate for modeling coordination failure, information asymmetry, institutional behavior, strategic deception, and collective adaptation under constraints. The immediate application is high-fidelity multi-agent simulation, but the architectural pattern extends to any domain where language-driven agents must operate inside governed environments.
The next phase of this field will not be defined by larger models. It will be defined by architectures that bind model creativity to hard process guarantees, preserve epistemic integrity over time, and expose enough telemetry for engineering teams to debug system behavior with rigor. SocialCompute is built in that direction: a deterministic control core governing stochastic agents, with forced coherence as a design principle rather than a best-effort outcome.
This document exposes the architecture while hiding the exact control topology. The codebase is proprietary, but the thesis is public: for social simulation to function as infrastructure, agency must be subjugated, state must be immutable, and the orchestrator has the final word.
